Soccer Betting: What Does -1 1/2, 2 Mean?

The line value is not what it seems like.

You place a wager on the game – whether it is a World Cup match or an MLS game – and then a mysterious number comes up on the board. What does it mean? How much will you actually win or lose?

The answer is found in the documentation. If you click on “Find A Bookie” near the top of the odds table, you will see the line value next to each team’s odds. (In the image below, Manchester United are listed as -1 1/2 and Juventus are listed as 2. This means that if you wager $100 on Manchester United to win, you will win $101 if they win, but if they lose you will lose $101.)

Line values can be hard to understand, particularly if you are new to soccer betting. This is mainly because bookies do not always explain line values clearly, especially when there is some confusion over the interpretation of them. For example, take a look at Liverpool vs Manchester United in the Premier League. Liverpool are 1.5 goals from beating Manchester United at their own game, but the line value for the game is Manchester United -1 1/2 and Liverpool +1 1/2. This is because while you will win $101 if Manchester United lose and you win $101 if Liverpool win, the point spread makes up for the smaller line value.

With soccer betting, it is essential to understand line values and what they mean. Doing this can help you make better winning and losing bets, and also understand which games suit your preferences. For example, if you like to bet on games where both teams have a high chance of winning, you should look for low-priced games that have large line values. Alternatively, if you like to bet on games where the match is more unpredictable, you should look for high-priced games with low line values. (This will generally mean that there is less certainty of who will win.)

Where Do I Bet?

If you want to bet on soccer in a traditional bookmaker, then you will first need to look for a regulated online sportsbook that offers international betting markets. (In the United States, you will need to look for a legal sportsbook that is licensed to do business in New York State. This is a requirement for legal betting in America, as well as in most other countries.)

It is also essential that the sportsbook you choose to bet with is capable of processing payments made in a variety of ways, including cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. The two largest American-regulated sportsbooks currently offer sports betting with Bitcoin. In the case of BTC betting, you will need to create an account with the bookmaker, and then make a payment in Bitcoin. Some sportsbooks also allow you to deposit funds via credit cards, but it is generally more convenient to use bitcoin. (Note: if you live in New York State and you want to place bets in traditional sportsbooks, then you will need to become a member of the New York sports gambling license program. You can become a member for free, and then use your membership to place bets. More information on the program can be found here.)

What Should I Bet On?

Although you can place bets on virtually any sporting event, you should have a clear idea of what you are betting on. Remember: without a doubt, soccer is the most popular sport in the world. This is largely because of its popularity in Europe and worldwide. The top five most-viewed YouTube videos currently feature soccer matches and demos. (The Pew Research Center found that 89% of American adults have watched soccer matches or events on TV in the past year. Only the National Football League and the National Basketball Association are more popular.)

While you might enjoy betting on the World Cup once or twice a year, the truth is that soccer matches occur quite frequently. (The World Cup is 6 years long, and then there is another World Cup. This is in addition to the various other international tournaments that take place throughout the year.) If you want to place bets often, then you should consider looking for daily fantasy sports contests where you can get odds on the outcomes of soccer games. (These odds will be extremely favorable to you if you play on an official site. Fantasy sites take the information about upcoming soccer games and combine it with information about actual past games, using sophisticated algorithms to generate accurate score predictions for individual matches. For more information on daily fantasy sports, see my primer on the subject or the FAQ section of my website.)

How Much Should I Bet?

The amount you should bet on a soccer match depends on your preferred odds and which team you think is going to win. In the United Kingdom, you should bet on each match using odds as follows:

  • If you want to bet on a team that is listed at 5/2 (1.5 at 2.0), you should place a £5 ($7.50) bet on that team
  • If you want to bet on a team that is listed at 4/1 (4.0 at 1.0), you should place a £4 ($6.25) bet on that team
  • If you want to bet on a team that is listed at 3/1 (3.0 at 1.0), you should place a £3 ($4.50) bet on that team
  • If you want to bet on a team that is listed at 2/1 (2.0 at 1.0), you should place a £2 ($2.75) bet on that team
  • If you want to bet on a team that is listed at 1/2 (1.0 at 1.0), you should place a £1 ($1.50) bet on that team

If you want to bet on multiple teams, then you should either bet on each team separately or use a mixture of both. For example, if you want to place a £5 ($7.50) bet on Juventus to beat Barcelona and a £3 ($4.50) bet on Real Madrid to beat Borussia Dortmund, you could use this combination of odds: (4.0 x 1.5) + (3.0 x 2.0). (4.0 x 1.5) stands for Juventus beating Barcelona and (3.0 x 2.0) stands for Real Madrid beating Borussia Dortmund. If you use a single bet slip to place multiple bets, then you will need to specify which team you are betting on in the comments section at the bottom of the bet slip. (This is to ensure that your bet has not been disputed by the bookmaker. If you have already wagered on the game and it has not yet ended, then you can contact the bookmaker via the support page on their website. In most cases, they will be able to help you out with your wager. If all else fails, then you can contact the customer support team via live chat or by calling them.)

When Do I Win My Money Back?

Usually, you will win your money back from a losing bet within 7 days. In some instances, this can be a bit faster. Some sportsbooks offer a full refund if your team loses, and some offer an exchange of money for free bets. In the case of an exchange, you will need to contact the bookmaker via their support team and negotiate this with them. (You can find contact details and a complaint form for the national gambling commission in your country at the end of this document.)

The majority of online bookmakers will require you to call them to get your money back from a losing bet. However, if your team loses and you have used a debit or credit card to make the payment, you will usually be able to get your money back, as long as the bank accepts this as a valid claim. (Some bookmakers, such as Paddy Power, will allow you to contact them via email, but this is not a reliable method.) If you do not win your money back within 7 days, then you should consider whether you should be continuing to bet on this game or not. (The only way to find out for sure is to contact the support team and ask them when you will get your winnings.) You could also ask other users on message boards whether they have had any luck with these websites and apps. (This is not always the most reliable method, but it’s better than guessing.)

Which Teams Are Eligible For The Title ‘Most Popular’?’

For decades, soccer in the United States experienced something of a renaissance. The sport’s popularity grew significantly during this time, with more and more people either playing or watching the game. This is largely thanks to various grassroots soccer programs that started in the 1960s and continued into the following decade. These programs not only helped develop the next generation of American soccer players, they also introduced the sport to a whole new audience.
