A brand new week, a brand new movie recommendation! At this point in our relationship, we’re pretty sure you’ll agree that we’ve become pretty good at this. In case you missed it, check out our last pick – ‘On the Hunt’. You might also enjoy some of our other recommendations: ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘The Lobster’, and ‘The Imitation Game’.
A Movie About Sport
If we had to pick just one movie to represent the 2018 Summer Olympics in London, we would confidently pick ‘Incarnation’. The premise of the film is that the Summer Olympics would be replaced by a competition of mythical creatures called the Incarnations. So, basically, the Olympics would become something like the world cup of magic. If you’re unfamiliar, W.O.W is an abbreviation for ‘We Own the World’. The film’s tagline is ‘Bold. Brutal. Beautiful.’ We couldn’t agree more. Although, we’re not so sure about the last part. The movie is set to be released in the UK on June 28th.
A Film About Love
In case you’re curious, our most popular movie recommendation this week is ‘Midnight In Paris’. The reason why is simple: it’s a classic romantic comedy. Whether you’re into old-school Hollywood humor or not, you’ll have plenty to laugh about. The movie is based on the best-selling book by Owen Wilson and Woody Allen. The pair of writers and directors take the audience on a voyage of self-discovery through the city of lights. The film also stars Nicole Kidman, Carla Bruni, and Judi Dench. Midnight In Paris is now showing in theaters across the country.
A Historical Drama
‘Dunkirk’ is the much-anticipated follow-up to Tom Hanks’ critically-acclaimed ‘Captain Phillips’. Set during World War II, ‘Dunkirk’ follows the harrowing journey of the civilian population after the English Channel was blocked by the German army. Facing certain death, many try to escape to safer lands. The bulk of the movie is set against the backdrop of the Normandy invasion – the biggest amphibious military operation in world history. The film stars Tom Hanks, John Goodman, and Laura Dern. It opens nationwide in the US on July 19th and in the UK on July 26th.
A Film About Food
If you’re a fan of Guy Fieri, you’ll probably love his new food-themed film, ‘The Kitchen’. In the movie, Fieri travels across North America meeting famous chefs and sampling their culinary delights. The reviews have been good, but the real test will come when moviegoers see how they react to the food in the theaters. The film is scheduled for an early release this autumn.
An Action-Adventure
This week’s action-adventure movie recommendation comes all the way from Sundance. ‘Kung Fury: The Final Chapter’ is the third and final installment in the ‘Kung Fury’ series. The original was released back in 1966 and starred Laurence Olivier, Peter O’Toole, and Yul Brynner. The film was originally meant to be an swan song for Brynner, who died a few days before the movie’s premiere. ‘Kung Fury: The Final Chapter’ is directed by David LeRoy Anderson and written by Peter David. The film is set for an unspecified 2018 release.
An Adventure In Space
Last but not least, we have an adventure movie recommendation from the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. ‘A Quiet Place’ is the post-apocalyptic horror movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The synopsis for the movie is pretty self-explanatory; it follows a family that must survive in silence in the midst of roaming bands of creatures that prey upon them. The design of the film’s creatures was done by the creature designer of ‘Halloween’, Rick Baker. If you’re a fan of creature features, this one is for you. The film also stars John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, and Emily Blunt. It opens in theaters across the country on February 9th.
At this point, you may be wondering where our movie recommendations come from. The answer is pretty simple; we just search for movies that have a high rating on Amazon. With the number of positive reviews, you’ll have no trouble finding a quality movie that fits nearly every category.
