Cricket betting is one of the most popular sports betting variations because it’s so easy to understand. The great thing about cricket betting is that even the non-gamblers can enjoy the thrill of seeing one of their favorite players score a great knock or pick up a wicket. The game only has two teams – bat and ball – with one win condition: run your opponent over or take them out!
As the name suggests, cricket is a game that is widely accepted and played around the world. The international cricket season runs from April to September with June to August being the hottest months. You’ll see lots of cricketing events taking place during these months, including Test matches (known as the “grand slam” of cricket), One Day International matches, and T20 tournaments. One of the most prominent cricket hubs is the UK, where the sport is mainly enjoyed by men – although a lot of women are now joining in too! If you’re looking to place bets on cricket, then there are a few things you’ll need to check out.
The Different Terminologies
When it comes to cricket betting, there are a few phrases and terms that are used that may not be familiar to you. These are listed below. Be sure to look them up before placing any bets – it’ll make all the difference!
In cricket betting, the number that appears before the score indicates the amount the payout will be if the final score of the game is shown to be higher than the number posted. For example, if a bookmaker sets the Over price at 1.5, then they’re accepting bets that the final score will be between 1.5 and 2.0.
In cricket, an Over is scored when the total number of runs scored by both teams is higher than the number of wickets left in the innings. When this happens, the team with the most runs wins. There is no run-out in an Over; the batting team is simply reset for the next innings.
An Under is the opposite of an Over. In an Under, the number before the score indicates the amount of score the payout will be if the final score is lower than the posted number. For example, if a bookmaker sets the Under price at 1.5, then they’re expecting the final score to be between 1.5 and 2.0.
An Under is scored when the total number of runs scored by both teams is lower than the number of wickets left in the innings. When this happens, the team with the most wickets wins. There is no run-out in an Under; the batting team is simply reset for the next innings.
A Straight is a wager placed on the outcome of the game, with no regard to the number of runs or wickets that are scored. The bet will be determined by the bookmaker based on the starting lineup and the weather conditions. If you think a particular player will score more runs than the other, you can place a Straight bet on them. This is also the case if you think a particular team will win more fairly easily or by more than one run. When placed on a game, a Straight will settle to either a win, place, or loss.
A Tie is a wager where the amount you win or lose will be the same regardless of the outcome of the game. Ties usually occur when one or more matches are drawn or there is no result after a certain number of overs have been bowled. Essentially, you’re placing a wager on the number of runs that will be scored in the drawn game. If you think the total number of runs scored will be the same in both teams, then you can place a Tie bet.
Winner Take All
With Winner Take All (WTA), you’re agreeing to pay out regardless of whether your wager is successful or not. In a WTA bet, your winnings will be multiplied by the number of teams you wager on. For example, if you wager on England to win the cricket match, and they do, you’ll win £100. If they don’t, then you’ll still have to pay out £100.
When you place a WTA bet, you’re not choosing between winners and losers. Instead, you’re placing a single wager and agreeing to pay out regardless of the result. Because there’s no sense in betting on a losing parlay, WTA betting is often used as a form of punishment where you’ll lose everything you wager on the losing team. You’ll usually hear bookies or casinos refer to WTA bets as “undesirable” or “risky” because of this.
Expect the Unexpected
Whatever your experience level is in sports betting, it’s always a good idea to keep an open mind. Even if you’re a seasoned pro at sports betting, unexpected events can and do happen. If you do win, take the time to celebrate your amazing good fortune, but don’t be afraid to admit when you’re wrong too. Remember: being a smart sports bettor is how you stay in the game!
