The Buffalo Wild Wings NFL Game went down on Tuesday night and it was a pretty exciting game to witness. The Jacksonville Jaguars were coming off one of their biggest wins of the season, while the Bills were looking to make a statement and stay relevant in the AFC playoff race.
As the game was about to begin, the over/under was opened at 50 and it quickly hit 52.5. What was the betting line before the game? It moved up to 56.5 before the opening kickoff and that’s pretty darn close to what the eventual final was. The over/under was settled at 49.5 and that’s exactly how it ended up.
Although most people in the sports world will be talking about the perfect game starring Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, there was another game that day that had just as many storylines.
Here’s a recap of what happened and what lines were open for each game.
Bills Vs. Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars came into the game 5-2 and fresh off their big AFC South upset victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars were averaging 14.7 points per game and 4.3 yards per play in their previous four games, but their offense completely shut down in the snow against the Bills. The Bills defense forced four turnovers – with two being interceptions – and they racked up nine sacks. It was a brutal day for QB Blake Bortles and he completed only 12 of his 33 pass attempts for 113 yards with two interceptions. He didn’t score a touchdown for the first time this season. Bortles now has 10 TDs and 11 interceptions in his last three games.
The Bills were averaging 16.8 points per game and 4.7 yards per play in their previous four games, but they couldn’t find the same level of performance against a struggling Jaguars team. The Bills didn’t pick up their pace until the middle of the fourth quarter, when they scored the game’s final 14 points. Josh Allen had another solid game, finishing with 18 rushes for 60 yards and one touchdown. It was another solid performance from the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Allen now has 30 carries for 110 yards and three scores in his last three games.
The over/under was opened at 49 points before the game and then moved to 47.5 before Allen’s rushing touchdown. The final score was 47.5.
Pants Vs. Titans
The Tennessee Titans had one of the most memorable games of the 2018 season. In an upset victory over the defending Super Bowl champs, the Tennessee Titans scored 31 second-half points and it was one of the biggest surprises of the year. The game was tied at the half and the Titans went on a 24-point burst in the third quarter. It was the biggest comeback in franchise history.
The Titans scored the game’s first 21 points and it looked like they would cruise to an easy victory. The Steelers defense played a huge factor in the comeback. Joe Don Duncan had a great performance, recording 11 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception. He also forced a fumble that was recovered by teammate Bud Dupree. It was another dominant defensive effort from the Steelers, who have now allowed only 13 total points in their last three games. The line opened at Steelers -13.5 and moved up to -12.5 before the end of the first quarter. The line was eventually moved to Steelers -12.5.
Bucs Vs. Panthers
The final score of the game was 31-28 in favor of the Carolina Panthers, but it was a pretty even battle throughout. The Panthers dominated the first half and the line moved up to Carolina +4.5 before half time. The line was subsequently moved to Panthers +5.5 before the end of the third quarter. The Panthers only needed a two-point conversion to get the win, but they failed on their third try and the line was set at 27.5 at the end of regulation. The overtime period wasn’t needed and the Panthers were able to celebrate a big win and some decent tickets sales. The game was decided in the final minute of regulation as quarterback Jameis Winston was intercepted by teammate DJ Alexander in the end zone. It was a huge win for the Panthers, who move to 5-2 on the season and remain in the thick of the NFC playoff race.
Rams Vs. Eagles
The Los Angeles Rams came into the game at 4-3, but they were looking to get back on track and prove they were one of the best teams in the NFC. It’s been an up and down season for the Rams, who struggled at the beginning of the year, but they have won six of their last seven games and are now riding a five-game winning streak. They have won six in a row and are coming off their biggest win of the season over the Minnesota Vikings. It was the kind of game the Rams needed to win and they delivered. The Rams were up 12-7 at the half and they didn’t look back. Despite blowing a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Eagles never lost hope and they kept battling to the end. The line opened at Rams -3.5 and moved up to -2.5 before the end of the first quarter. The line was then moved to Rams +2.5 before the end of the third quarter. When the ball was in the air for what would’ve been the game-winning Hail Mary pass, it was tipped by Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman and fell harmlessly to the ground. The line was at Rams +3.5 at the end of regulation and moved up to +3 at the end of overtime. Despite the heartbreaking end, the Eagles remain in the thick of the playoff hunt.
The final score was 32-31 in favor of the Rams and that’s all that needs to be said. It was a fantastic game to watch and a battle between two of the best teams in the NFC. The line opened at Rams -3.5 and then moved down to -3 before the end of the first quarter. The line was subsequently moved to Rams -3 at the end of the third quarter. When the game was over, the line was at Rams -3.5.
Chiefs Vs. Patriots
The Kansas City Chiefs came into the game at 5-2 and looking to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The Chiefs went up 21-3 in the second quarter and their line opened at Chiefs +3.5. The line was subsequently moved to Chiefs +8.5 before the end of the third quarter. The Chiefs defense was amazing. They limited the Patriots to only six points in the second half and forced four turnovers. Linebacker Dee Ford had two interceptions and defensive back Breeland Speaks had an interception and fumble recovery in the game. The Patriots came into the game at 4-3 and they’ll need some help to make the playoffs. They’ll have to get some help from the rest of the AFC.
It was indeed an exciting day of football on Tuesday and we’ll be back tomorrow with more NFL news.
