What Were the Vegas Betting Lines on the Super Bowl?

Last week, the 113th annual Super Bowl took place between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams.

The game was a close one, with the score being tied at 38–38 at the end of regulation (the famous “Holy ****!” moment).

The NFL’s biggest game of the year saw the biggest betting markets and highest betting rates.

Below, you’ll find a breakdown of the betting lines for the most popular sportsbooks.

AFC Championship Odds

The AFC Championship odds from Vegas were all over the place but, in general, the oddsmakers thought the Patriots would beat the Los Angeles Rams.

The Patriots opened as 4.5-point favorites while the Rams were listed at 3.5-point underdogs.

After the opening kickoff, the Patriots jumped out to a 20–0 lead before the half.

Most bookmakers made a big adjustment in the second half as the Rams came back and closed the lead to 38–35.

For the final play, the Patriots trailed by a point and had to win the game with a field goal.

The Patriots kicked a 40-yarder as time expired and the Rams lost by a point.

Overall, the line moved extremely sharply in New England’s favor after halftime with the Rams only able to cover the points.

NFC Championship Odds

The NFC Championship odds from Vegas were also all over the place but, like the AFC Championship odds, the oddsmakers thought the Atlanta Falcons would beat the Minnesota Vikings.

The Falcons opened as 7-point favorites while the Vikings were listed at 4-point underdogs.

The line quickly moved in Minnesota’s favor after kickoff as the Vikings built an early 14-point lead before halftime.

The second half was much closer, with the Falcons only holding a slim lead at the end.

It was very similar to the AFC Championship as the lines moved in tandem during the entire game.

The teams traded blows throughout the game with neither defense holding the upper hand for the majority of the contest.

The teams traded field goals in the 4th quarter before Minnesota sealed the deal with a 28-yard touchdown run to win the game by 6.

Like the AFC Championship, the NFC title also resulted in a huge line shift.

Super Bowl 50 Odds

Vegas made huge favorites for Super Bowl 50, with the New England Patriots – currently the favorite to win the game – opening as 7-point favorites and the Philadelphia Eagles as 8-point underdogs.

The Super Bowl 50 odds from the betting shops were all over the place as well, with some bookies even giving the Minnesota Vikings a shot at winning.

The betting public is somewhat fractured at the moment with some believing that the Patriots will emerge victorious while others foresee the Eagles taking the championship.

Most bookmakers made no adjustments to the odds throughout the game, which was, in fact, a 5-point favorite at the start.

It was a tight game throughout, with the score coming down to the wire.

The Patriots jumped out to a 24–0 lead but, in the end, the Eagles were just too good, scoring 4 fourth-quarter touchdowns en route to a 45–28 win.

The Eagles opened as 8-point underdogs but the line quickly moved in their favor after kickoff as the Patriots struggled to generate any offense.

The line continued to move in Philadelphia’s favor throughout the game, with them being a 13–3 winner against the spread.

The Super Bowl 50 odds were pretty much exactly the same as the regular season finale between the Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings, with the Eagles going into Minnesota and beating them 48–45.

Although it was never in question that the Eagles were going to beat the Minnesota Vikings, the line did move in favor of the underdogs for most of the game.

Regular Season Finale Odds

The finale of the regular season saw the Minnesota Vikings travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles.

For the regular season finale, the Vikings were listed at 4-point favorites while the Eagles were listed at 3-point underdogs.

The line quickly moved in the Eagles’ favor as it always does near the end of the season as both teams struggled to score throughout most of the game.

However, once again, the underdogs came through as the Eagles prevailed 20–16.

Hurricane Irma Specials

The NFL was hit with a massive hurricane last week as Hurricane Irma made its way up the US east coast, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.

Games that are scheduled for after the Florida hurricane are often subject to change as teams will want to ensure that their stadiums are safe and ready for play.

A number of post-Irma games were pushed back a day, with the Miami Dolphins – who play in the hurricane-affected city of Miami – having their win against the New York Jets postponed until Oct. 12.

The other games that were affected were the New England Patriots vs Atlanta Falcons, the Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens and the Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs.

The Titans and the Chicago Bears were also unable to play due to weather conditions as they were snowed in on September 20 and September 23, respectively.

The odds on these games will reflect the circumstances as the public knows them and could see massive price reductions.

What Were the Vegas Betting Lines on the Super Bowl?

One of the biggest games of the year saw the biggest betting lines as New England’s NFL title defense against Los Angeles was the centerpiece of the gambling community’s attention.

Overall, the betting public is somewhat fractured regarding which team will emerge victorious.

Most bookmakers made a big adjustment in the second half with the Rams coming back from a 38–35 deficit to win the game; however, some handicappers think the underdogs will prove to be the winners.
